Mark Lessman - San Diego Saxophonist

saxophonist Mark Lessman

The saxophone is the closest thing to the human voice there is by my estimation and I never lose my enthusiasm for playing this magical instrument.  I am inspired by great saxophonists from the present back to the greats of the 50's onward including John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, Dexter Gordon up to Joe Henderson, Wayne Shorter, Michael Brecker and many more.  I play the tenor and soprano saxes as well as the flute and the EWI (electronic wind instrument).

To be informed of where I am performing, I send out an occasional email.  There's a sign up for that to the right or at the bottom of the page.

“There’s plenty of Stan Getz in his airy tone and lyric style, but, to his credit, Lessman pushes beyond these Getz trademarks. By blending elements of music from slick-sounding Southern California, where he used to live, with a grittier influence of musical Chicago, where he’s now based, Lessman produces a worthy style of his own”.

note: I lived in Chicago at the time of this review but am back in San Diego now.
